Simple Health Tips For A Busy Lifestyle
This post is all about health tips. Let’s face it- sometimes it’s hard being healthy. It seems we have the easiest access to the most unhealthy things, and often it can be time-consuming trying to lead a healthier lifestyle. With us being right in the midst of the technology age, you’d think it be easier than ever to try and improve bad habits. So I’ve made a list of ten pretty simple things you can implement into your routine to help you lead a healthier life.
You may be asking yourself what qualifies me to write a post like this. I am not currently a licensed professional in the health field but I am a nursing student, drawing on past personal and professional experiences I’ve seen and witnessed. I’ve encouraged and watched the evolution of many of my friends and family from an unhealthy lifestlye to one geared toward living in optimal health.

Utilize the power of technology!
We’re so lucky to live in an age where we have such amazing technology right at our fingertips. I don’t think I’ve met anyone who doesn’t have regular access to a smartphone, tablet, or computer. My nieces have been using apps on my cell phone since they were old enough to hold them (although that kind of scares me at times!), and even my grandmother has a tablet so she can go on Facebook and see all her grandkids who are scattered throughout the country.
Some of my favorite features for tracking my health are handy apps that I can use right from my phone at any moment. Yes. In this day and age technology is the first thing mentioned on my list of health tips. Check them out below!
1) A Fitness Tracker
I decided to start with this fitness tracker as the first of my health tips because it is soo much more than just a tracker! There are tons of handy features that it presents when you utilize their website and app. I have had my Fitbit Charge HR for a few years now and I absolutely LOVE it! It tracks my steps, flights of stairs, and heart rate among other things. You can even wear it while sleeping so it can assess your sleeping patterns, whether you’re too restless, and tell you if you’re getting enough quality sleep. It’s also water resistant. I’ve accidentally let it slip into the washing machine, and dryer, a few times and it has stood the test of time. I love being able to see how my activity and weight has changed over time and it always seems to keep me motivated to keep going.
2) Log Your Actions!
One of the best things about Fitbit is the ability to easily log your meals, and water consumption, with the tap of a button on your phone. You can easily add buttons to the home screen of your device and as soon as you finish a glass of water, or sit down to a meal, you can log it. You even have the ability to scan barcodes of products instead of having to manually type it in. Score!
I’ve included a screenshot showing some of the widgets that you can put on your home screen to easily enter data on your meals, workouts, and more.
Even if you don’t have a Fitbit there are tons of other apps that do the same thing. Most of them will let you favorite certain meals or snacks if you eat them often making it even easier.
3) Digital Reminders
I also have an app on my phone that reminds me to drink water. I know, it may sound kind of obvious but I’ve found it to be super helpful. When you have a lot of things going on it’s easy to go a while without eating or drinking, even if you have it nearby. A simple alert on my phone pops up reminding me to drink some water and I am able to reach my goal daily because of it. Depending on if you have an android or
Depending on if you have an android or iPhone the apps available may differ. If you’re not interested in an extra app for that then you can easily just set a reminder on your phone to let you know. Either way, a gentle reminder is all it really takes to help improve your water intake and it’s definitely worth it!
4) Always Carry A Water Bottle With You
My next health tip incorporates technology although it’s not an integral part of it. One of the things that has drastically helped me improve my water intake is keeping a water bottle on me at all times. Not only does it encourage me to drink more water but it’s also much better for the environment than constantly purchasing plastic water bottles. And it saves you more money in the long runs as well.
I actually bought a Bluetooth water bottle (I know, how extreme) and I really like how it tracks my water intake and shows me an exact reading of how much I’m getting! If that’s a bit too much for you though a regular water bottle is just as effective in holding your water.
Eat Smarter To Eat Healthier
My next health tip focuses on learning to eat smarter in order to improve your health. Being healthy isn’t the hardest thing in the world because loads of people do it, right? It’s all about doing things to ease the “burden” of a healthy lifestyle
5) Plan Your Meals
A great way to stay healthy easier is by planning out your meals ahead of time. I always plan out my meals for the week, do the shopping I need during the weekend, and then prep most of my big meals on Sunday so I can just reheat or warm things throughout the week. It saves you loads of time trying to figure out what you’d like to make or what day you’ll prep which meal.

6) Simple Smoothies
Another thing I do to help increase my intake of fruits and veggies is daily smoothies. I usually have one for, or with, breakfast depending on my hunger that morning. Most of the time I will cut up some fruits and veggies on Sunday and freeze them in individual Ziploc bags to take out and make smoothies with during the week.
If you’re not the type of person who likes to make your own smoothie “baggies” either because of time or preference then you can easily buy some pre-made smoothie kits. Sometimes I’ll just buy some bags of frozen fruit and add some juice, or almond milk to it. Just too easy!
7) Snack Smarter
It’s been said that it’s better to eat smaller meals more frequently throughout the day as opposed to a couple big meals hours apart. Snacking can actually be really good for your health, provided you’re snacking on the right things. When you’re feeling peckish there is nothing better than munching on something good for you.
If you’re craving something sweet grab a piece of fruit. If you’re wanting something more savory than try some nuts or even jerky. I personally don’t eat meat but I have friends who love snacking on some jerky. A little burst of protein can give you a nice energy kick to help push you through the rest of your day!
Get A Little Physical
A list of good health tips couldn’t be complete without a little bit of exercise, right? While diet is probably the most crucial area to make changes for improving your health, incorporating more physical activity into your routine will only serve to help your journey even more!
8) Work It Out
Going walking, biking, or to the gym can be great ways to get in a workout. If you’re more strapped for time or cash then try going on youtube and searching for workout videos. Everything from yoga to pilates, and even more intense workouts can be found there. It’s a nice way to work out on a budget!

Support For The Win!
My last health tips look at what you can do to help support your health journey. There are different ways to view support, like emotional or physical, but I think any type of support can help strengthen your resolve and aid you in realizing your goals.
If you’re on the go a lot it can be hard making sure you get all of the nutrients you need. While it might not be for everyone, have seen great results in taking daily vitamins to supplement for vitamins and minerals that I may not be getting enough of in my diet.
Since I’m a pescetarian I find this to be particularly important, especially since I’m only eating seafood maybe once or twice a month. I’ve honestly seen a consistent rise in my energy levels since implementing them into my daily routine.
Accountability is one of the best ways to help you stay on track with your health goals. If you have someone near you who is trying to improve their health as well then one of the best things you guys can do is support each other.
If you don’t have someone to walk this journey with, or prefer to motivate yourself, then I’d suggest keeping a food journal so you can see what you’re eating when. Looking at your habits on paper is a good way to see what it is you’re doing right and wrong.
